    STRUCTURE AND HISTORICAL

At the 11th century, the body of the castle had of another opening only of all small windows.
Broader windows were bored fine 15th, beginning 16th when the fortress was transformed into residence seigneuriale.
The large windows, they, were bored at the beginning of 20th.
Moreover, at the 11th century, the roofs were covered with stone slabs.
With 15th, one removed the means of defense of the castle, and the roofs, pointed like that of the keep, were covered with tiles.
With the Revolution, the revolutionists reflect fire thinking there that the castle would entirely burn.  Fortunately, the attic was covered with floor tiles which prevented fire from being propagated.
The roofs were then rebuilt but the cost of rebuilding did not make it possible to rebuild them all in pepper plantation (only the keep was rebuilt with identical).
At the 16th century, the owners wishing to have an opening on the ditches destroyed the building which was vis-a-vis the Western frontage of the castle and, with the stones of recovery, built the hexagonal tower which decorates this frontage.
This tower was built to allow an entry of full foot (before the 16th century, the owners were obliged to return by the cellars, to go up to the ground floor by a staircase dug in the stone, and they reached the first and the second floors by scales which they hoisted after their passage, safety in the event of attack).
It also made it possible to reach on the floors thanks to the staircase volutes builds out of stones of Volvic.  This staircase, very particular, does not have a central pillar;  it was built at the same time as the tower and each walk is enchased in the walls (only a pillar being in the cellars supports the staircase).

In same time, openings were bored on the frontage.  With the origin, the windows had mullions but, in 1793, when it was necessary to pay the tax on the openings, those were removed to pay only one tax instead of 4... and of the openings of windows were also stopped!
The right wing of the castle was built in 1766;  it contains the large dining room with the 23 chairs (a lady of RIBEROLLES having had 23 children, each one of them had its chair with a different reason) and the great kitchen.
Above the door of entry one can see the armorial bearings of the COMPTOUR of APCHON, cut in the piere of Volvic.  They had been unobtrusive with the Revolution but the RIBEROLLES, by recognition, made them reproduce.
They represent 3 surmounted heads of ram of a heaume.
The Northern frontage is that which preserved the aspect of castle-extremely the most.  One sees there the entry of the 11th century with a loophole on each side.
In the West, a garden with the Frenchwoman is organized where, originally, the farms were (between the two belts of ditches).

At the beginning of 19th, those were moved and the arranged garden with the Frenchwoman.
The ditches have a depth from 2,80 to 3,50 meters.
They are fed by a brook and drains (this allowed that in the event of seat they are always out of water).  Originally, there was neither plug, nor valve to empty them.
The valve was made at the beginning of 20th.
The castle passed to the family of CADIER of VEAUCE in 1892 when the Baron of VEAUCE married Claire of RIBEROLLES.
Mr Arnaud of CADIER of VEAUCE is the current owner.
